The weather is getting warmer here and none of my daughter's skirts came anywhere close to the vicinity of her knees. They still fit everywhere else, so I thought I could play around with the hems a little to make them longer (and cuter).
I didn't take any "during" pics, but basically, I unpicked the hem, which added 2 inches. Then I took some sheer black material, folded it in half, gathered it, and sewed it along the hem. I added a total of 3 inches and it's way cuter too.
BEFORE
I made the bird skirt last spring and so I had some leftover fabric. I cut strips of fabric and finshed the bottom edge. The top edge, I added 1/2 tucks every 2 1/2 inches. If you want the ruffle fuller, just add the tucks closer together.
Then I sewed in on the skirt. AFTER
AFTER
It took me all morning, I was able to add 2-4 inches/ skirt. Hopefully she won't outgrow them too fast.

The Neopplitan skirt, I also cut out a strip of fabric and finshed the bottom edge. Then I gathered the top edge and sewed it to the bottom of the skirt.

So cute...I think they look better than the originals. (And love the white t-shirt!) Just found your blog (on Sugardoodle...I'm the Laurel advisor.) Thanks for the yw stuff. I don't know what I'd do if I couldn't just steal other people's original ideas. (BTW....I call myself the "kept woman"...sounds like we both have similar (sarcastic) senses of humors. (That looks wrong. Maybe it should read senses of humor? Yeah, that looks right.) Kinda like Mothers in law. (That's a completely differents subject altogether!:)
ReplyDeleteOOps..I really need to edit my comments before I post. Above should read "That's a completely different subject", not "completely differents subject". Duh.
ReplyDeleteIt's amazing what a difference a new hem makes!
ReplyDeleteI think the extra hems make them look even nicer. Good ideas.
ReplyDeleteI really like the added length on the purple dress--and the skirts! I have had so much trouble finding skirts and dresses for me and for my girls. Thanks for the GREAT idea.
ReplyDeleteLove those!
ReplyDeletelooks amazing! I've done that on my blog too! and p.s. I love your Jimmer shirts! definitely a jimmer fan (as my blog would show...)
ReplyDeleteCardigans and Cookie Dough
I still think it's amazing just how much difference a ruffle makes to a dress or skirt. LOVE the black ruffle on the bottom of the dress!!!
