Sweater Week Day: 13 Sweater refashions

Let me start by saying that there are a lot of ugly sweaters out there.  The above was taken the day my Dad came home from the first Gulf War-despite tragic fashion choices, it was a very happy day.  My sister Lara, sporting the pink elephant sweater, insists that my mom dressed them from Bill Cosby's personal collection. Since I was 18, and hopefully dressing myself by that point in my life, I have no one to blame but myself for the purple plaid blazer or those bangs.

Sweaters with large 3-d animals on the front (and if I remember correctly the back as well) are far beyond refashioning.  However, sometimes we have sweaters that just don't fit right or are a little boring and need some help.  Here is some ideas what to do with those sweaters.

Here are some that I did:

Here are some that other people did:
 Cut Out and Keep
Completed Project: T Shirt Shrug Picture #2
(this one is awesome there are about 80 other ideas that people made with the same pattern)

Tatter-tots and Jell-o
Love those colors!

My Two Butterflies
I think this one is just plain fun.

Maybe Matilda
She comes up w/ so many great ideas, and I love this -so charmingly sweet.

Flamingo Toes
I love how the 2-D and 3-D embelishments work together.

(If I had a baby and  if  I didn't live in Texas, and if I had an old  brown and orange stripped sweater-I would so make this)

  1. Fun seeing the old picture :)

I haven't done anything like that...but you have inspired me to want to (whether or not I actually will is another story)

  2. Hmmm, I can think of a hot pink elephant sweater that might make a very nice hat and scarf set! ;-) If it makes you feel any better about your family's tragic fashion choices, I specifically remember dressing myself before we headed to the hospital to meet my new baby sister, and choosing a black sweater with hot pink and green polka dots . . . and then putting a pair of rainbow suspenders on over them. We all make bad decisions sometimes ;-) Thanks so much for sharing my sweater! So many cute ideas here!

  4. Great ideas! I always loved those sweaters with the elbow patches too, and the grosgrain ribbon down where the buttons are. It's almost time to get the sweaters out where I live... maybe I'll get lucky and find some that need refashioning :)

  13. Ok, since I'm not in Texas, why can't you have an owl on your sweater? Is it cause of a sports team or what? Cute sweaters and I can remember my sweaters, from the 90's, and still have a few left. lol I know that I have one cardigan that has sleeves that have lost their shape. I want to make it 3/4 sleeved one and have been scared which is dumb cause I can can get other ones from lands end. Thanks for sharing!
