The Perfect Swimsuit is not a swimsuit

Guess who they make swimsuits for?
Swimsuit models and plastic mannequins.
If you are over the age of 12, it is really hard to find a cute suit that you can actually swim in-even harder to find one that you can confidently wear to a water park.  I always spend the entire time checking to make sure "the sisters" are properly covered.  I once even traumatized an entire family at Great Wolfe Lodge.

A few weeks ago we were at the beach w/ my friend Susan. Susan and her 2 daughters had super-cute non-granny swimsuits and spent the day boogey boarding, playing soccer and genuinely having fun.  They didn't spend anytime tugging, pulling, covering, and walking around w/ their arms folded across their chest. I didn't think this was possible, until she shared their secret.
They were wearing athletic tops and bikini bottoms.
Genius!
Athletic tops are made of dri-fit material and have built in bras. I got one w/ a little padding, for modesty's sake.
I feel like the athletic top makers should really share their designs w/ the swim suit makers.

My daughter and I found this top on clearance at Old Navy for $4.99 and the bottoms at Target for $16 (why are bottoms so expensive?).

I don't really want a pic of my daughter in a swimsuit floating around the internet, but trust me, it is super cute on her.  She is modest but still looks sporty and downright adorable.

  2. Personally am not a fan of bikini bottoms as they tend to come off when diving from great heights into the water in those water parks... I once had to try and dive after them! But I agree that is a very comfy way to enjoy the pool as long as no diving is involved :)

    1. Good point-I hadn't thought of that, since I'm pretty much a feet- first kinda girl. I just wish suit designers would figure out that women have boobs and need a bra-especially when we're going to get wet:)

  3. Definitely a good idea. Personally, I am a huge fan of boy short bottoms. That way I don't have to worry about anything riding up, especially if I'm at a water park riding down...;)

    1. Best of luck. Check TJ Maxx or Ross, they always have cute ones for a pretty good price. My baby is 8 and I still try an avoid trying on swimsuits as much as possible:)

  11. Just in time. I took the kids to the Y last week, and lets say I'm not as comfortable in my tankini as I was before having twins. Gonna go shopping for athletic tops. Great idea, thanks for posting!

  13. Wow what a clever idea! My body is not meant to wear a swimsuit, so maybe I'll find something better with active tops. Great Tip!!!!
