No sugar?!?!?!?!

I realize that most of you probably don't care, but I am posting this here to keep my self honest.

I am a sugar addict-especially if it also has some fat in it.  In an effort to try and control my appetite for all things yummy, I put a "Do Not eat Sugar for 30 days" challenge on my 40 by 40 list.

Here are my rules:  I will avoid all sugars, syrups, and honey for 30 days.  I will try and avoid all processed sugars, but if there happens to be a little in something like bread or pasta sauce, I will not freak out can still eat it. For example, I could eat a slice of french bread, but not a cinnamon roll or a cupcake.

I am allowed to eat sugar substitutes.

Wish me luck.  I have 29 days to go.

  1. I can tell you from experience that you will crave sugar for the first few days and then, you will forget you even like it. The less sugar you have, the less sugar you want. You can do it!

  2. Good luck!! I know there was a time that I could do it, but right now would not be it... You can do it! If you feel a craving for something sugary, drink a glass of water, it'll help to feel full and not hungry ;)

  3. I just started 30 day no sugar diet today too. Good luck! I've done it once before and what they said is true after the first few days you'll feel so much better.

  4. I wish you the best! I have had fantastic luck making my own "ice cream" dessert smoothies lately. Actually, it's more like sorbet, because you don't have to add any sugar. Since fruit is naturally sweet, I just grab a bunch and throw it in the blender (I have a VitaMix) sometimes with Soymilk or OJ. I generally use strawberries, banana, mango, peaches, and sometimes berries. I use frozen fruit and add small amounts of liquid slowly to keep it fairly thick. Then I just pour a bunch into shorter glasses and store in the freezer. It's really sweet, because of the fruit, I have never had to add any sweetener and it really satisfied me whenever I think I want ice cream. I live somewhere where it's difficult to get fresh and good quality produce, so that's why I went the frozen route. I imagine if you have a lot of produce, kiwis would be great and melon would be delicious too. I have heard grapes are good and there's thousands of other recipes online. Anyway, I am sure your personal tastes might be different but regardless I do absolutely wish you the best of success. Also, despite what you seem to think, I would actually be interested in hearing updates, and what things you do to deal with your cravings and especially any good recipes you try out! :)

    1. Smoothies are a great idea-especially when it's hot outside. Last night I made watermelon sorbet (I'm hoping to post the recipe later today)-that wasn't too bad and satisfied my craving for something sweet.

  6. I don't know if I could say I'm doing that too, but have been for a year . . . . 6 days of no sugar with cheat days every 7th day . . . . . and now that I've reached my goal weight, I do have treats when I'm at an outing (book club and such). I'd say it took me longer than a few days to not crave sugar for my cheat day. It's only been a couple of months that I realized that on my cheat day, I haven't even wanted sugar and I have to remind myself to cheat!!!!

That first month 5 pounds slipped off like butter! and I remember how wonderful it felt. A brownie can give me a buzz now! and then a headache . . . . YIKES!
