No Sew t-shirt vest

I saw my daughter ironing last year's gym shirt and was confused.  My mother irons jeans and I was worried that she had inherited some weird ironing OCD from her grandma.  A little while latter, she entered the room modeling her HUGE smile and this very cute vest that she made all by herself.

Pretty fabulous for an old gym shirt and considering she's only 13.

She found the complete tutorial here at Wobisobi. She did the back a little different than the original.

Self-Esteem-Yes Please

 be-YOU-tiful
I saw this on Pinterest (it traces back to this blog here).  I loved it and it's exactly what I want tell my daughter everyday to "Be-you-tiful".  When she was at school one day, I cut the letters out in mirror image w/ my Cricut out of contact paper that I got at the Dollar Store. I stuck them on the back wall of her bathroom.

Every morning when she looks in the mirror she will see a little love note from me:

(taking a picture/ of a bathroom mirror is hard).
All day long, the world will be sending her all kinds of messages, I hope this is the message that she listens to.

1 Hour Wrap- Skirt

First of all, Kudos to all those of you that take pics of yourselves all the time.  I enlisted the help of a not-so-enthusiastic teenager and this is the best shot of the skirt out of about the 50 we took (my eyes were closed so I just cropped out my head).

I never sew for myself.  I figure it's like buying clothes, spending a few hours on them, and then trying them on and it never works out well for me.
I needed some skirts, patterns were $.99 and I have a ton of fabric, so I thought I'd give it another try. I figured if I hated it, I would just take in the seams and give it to my kid.
I used McCalls #5430 view A.  The package says it is a "1 Hour skirt".  If I didn't sew the waistband on upside down (ARGHH!)-it might have taken an hour.  There are no zippers so I think this would be a good one to try if you're a beginner. I'm going to make another one, and I'll time myself and report back. I've got some linen, that I think would look pretty as a wrap skirt, but this time, I'm drawing arrows on all my pieces.

11 Things About Me

Robin, this weeks give-a-way sponsor (click here to win $25 or awesome fabric) tagged me in
11 Things About Me. Thanks Robin!

The rules:

You must post these rules.

Each person must post 11 things about herself on his/her blog.

Answer the questions the “tagger” listed for you in her post, and create 11 new questions for the people you tag to answer.

You must choose 11 people to tag and link to them in the post.

Let each blogger know that you have tagged him/her.

Here are my questions I answered:

1) If you could live anywhere in the world, where would it be & why?
I've lived all over the world, but I honestly really love living in San Antonio.  Good schools, low cost of living, great climate and great food. I would love to spend a few years living in Europe (not forever, just 3-4 years).

2) What was your favorite subject in High School?
History
3) Tell us about your most memorable Christmas.
This is a tough one.  The funnest was when we surprised the kids w/ a trip to Disney.  We woke them up and told them to get in the car and that we were going for a big surprise trip.  The boys didn't guess till we were in North Carolina.
4) Introvert or extrovert?
Introvert
5) Would you rather be hot or cold?
hot-I hate being cold
6) If you could do anything that you wanted to do today (money, time, job, no object), what would you do?
Travel-I love seeing new places
7) Who is your favorite musician/singer?
90's happy alternative rock
8) Nightgown or PJ's? (remember, this is a family show)  :-)
PJ's-or sweats
9) You are on a diet & your friend shows up eating ????  What can you NOT resist?
baked goods or anything chocolate.  I can resist candy other than chocolate, stuff w/ nuts in it, and ice cream (see #5)
10) Coke or Pepsi?  Coffee or Tea?  (okay, maybe that's 2 questions)
Neither, mostly water, but in the summer I love a Route 44 Diet Cherry Lime-ade from Sonic.  My hubby is a big fan of Diet Coke w/ Lime.

11) Link up your favorite blog post.  Why is it your favorite?  (Continuing the tradition!)
My favorite project is our game room (click here to see it):  The room is very much my husband and by far the coolest room in the house (and maybe the entire neighborhood).  If you ever stop by, you get to sign the wall.

And now my 11 Questions for you to answer:
1.  What is your biggest pet peeve?
2.  What are you most proud of?
3. What is your favorite book?
4. Who is your biggest hero and why?
5.  What is the weirdest thing you have ever eaten?
6. What is your favorite guilty pleasure?
7. DO you believe in love at first sight?
8. What reality TV show would you most like to be a cast member of?
9. What's you most annoying habit?
10. If someone gave you $100 and told you to go buy something nice for yourself-what would you buy?
11) Link up your favorite blog post.  Why is it your favorite?  (Continuing the tradition!)

St Patty Pillow Trio

I just finished the 3rd of my St Patty's panel pillow trio.  I made it same as the last 2, but I stitched around the applique to make it pop.
I'll keep this short, I'm going to go make some green deviled eggs in honor of Dr. Seuss.

St. Patty's Pillow

Somehow never got around to making panel pillows for February, but here is the March addition.

I just cut out squares of felt.  I ironed fusible webbing on the back of fabric and cut out the shapes and ironed them to the felt. Easy Peasy.

I'm working on a 3rd, but am having a crazy week.

Bad: 1.Hubby's gone and my kids are in way too many activities
        2. I got in a car wreck w/ an eldery Chinese man that speaks 0 English (not even yes or no)
        3. Middle child is watching "THE FILM" at school this week (they say parents are invited, but I don't know if I should go or not)
Good: 1. I won a Cutting Edge stencil give-a-way
          2.  Everyone's healthy
          3. My daughter had her personal best at a track meet
          4. Blog hit 500 followers
          5. Elderly Chinese man has excellent insurance
          6. Hubby's on a plane right now and is taking the day off tomorrow.
          7. After losing 4 in a row, youngest kid finally won a basketball game.
           8. Mary Kay sent me 17 tubes of lipstick to help me out in one of my 40 by 40 goals.

Now that I wrote it all out, it looks like I'm having a pretty good week:) I should do that more often.
